Sports massage

Sports massage is a therapeutic form of massage for injuries, pain, tension and tightness. It focuses on relieving pain and dysfunction in the body, restoring flexibility and mobility.

Sports massage can help prevent injury and can also be beneficial for rehabilitation after an injury has occurred. It can speed up recovery and reduce discomfort during the rehab process.

What to expect from a sports massage treatment

During a first appointment, I will take a case history and discuss your treatment aims with you.

I generally work with the client fully clothed, as I find working directly on the skin with lotions less effective. Wearing loose or stretchy clothing makes treatment easier.

The treatment may incorporate a variety of techniques including deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point release, joint mobilization, acupressure and stretches.

At the end of the session, I may go through some stretches and exercises with you, to work out which will be most beneficial to maintain and improve on the changes begun during the treatment; exercises that can easily fit into your life and routines.

Conditions that can be helped by sports massage

For 11 years I co-ran ClimbersClinic, a clinic for rock climbers, and as a result I’m very experienced with:

  • shoulder injuries

  • back  and neck problems

  • overuse injuries

  • tendonitis - tennis or golfer’s elbow

  • postural issues

  • tight hamstrings, quads, glutes etc

  • migraines and tension headaches

  • muscle tears and strains

However, I can work with most injuries or areas of tension.
